I just finished installing gentoo and I'm trying to emerge X11 on my powerbook G4 500mhz. It keeps failing on mesalib at the same point every time. I have to use a different computer to make this post so i can't give the exact error, plus I don't really know how to view portage errors (sorry i'm new to gentoo and pretty new to linux) but the error is something like this:

In file included from sis6326_state.c:29:
sis_context.h:407:2: error: #error platform needs WMB
make[6]: *** [sis6326_state.o] Error 1
make[6]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/mesa-6.5-r3/work/Mesa-6.5/src/mesa/drivers/dri/sis'

from there it leaves all the subdirs and ends with:

make: *** [linux-dri-ppc] Error 2

!!! ERROR: media-libs/mesa-6.5-r3 failed.
Call stack:
ebuild.sh, line 1539: Called dyn_compile
ebuild.sh, line 939: Called src_compile
mesa-6.5-r3.ebuild, line232: Called die

!!! Build failed

I hope this is enough information to at least give an idea of whats going on. If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Just an update... I'm not sure what fixed the problem, but I added VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" to my make.conf and decided to try merging the sources from another mirror and had no problems compiling. Can either of those make a difference or is it just coincidence?

No, that fixes the problem, it appears the sis driver isn't compiling on ppc, but it's included in the default drivers that are compiled when you don't include a list of video cards to compile. When you specified radeon, that fixed the problem. I've changed the default in CVS, so next time you emerge sync, it should be fixed. :)
