Mach64 on G3

I have a Blueberry iMac G3. Oldschool 333 MHz.

OK I have a:
iMac portage # lspci
00:12.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro 215GP (rev 5c)When firing up X I get:
[drm] Failed to load kernel module “mach64”

I don’t know howto find this module. I don’t think I need to install x11-drm and it fails anyhow. I have the 2.6 kernel and it takes care of drm right?

I just want the mach64 kernel module. :x I looked at the DRI project homepage and it looks like endless hassle to get it.

Is there an easy way/place to get this module? I really don’t care about the 3D rendering stuff.

Any one have this working?

Craig

hello,

if you don't care about 3d stuff, then you can disable dri in your xorg.conf (just make the dri line in modules a comment).

but you can easily get the kernel module by doing: emerge x11-drm. actualy you might want to get the ~ppc version, as the current stable version is slightly outdated.

ok. making this more clear after a private message asking for this:

The current stable version (using the keyword "ppc" in the ebuild) is version 4.3.0-r7. I haven't used that version recently, but I think it's rather old so a testing version (using the keyword "~ppc" in the ebuild) will be better. to get the latest testing version of x11-drm do this:

Code:

$ echo "x11-base/x11-drm ~ppc" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
$ emerge x11-drm

you would get x11-drm-20060608 with this command as of typing and this version is supposed to work with kernel 2.6 by the way.
