Is it possible to install a 32 bit os on a 64 bit system? I noticed that I could boot my dsl usb key, wiothout any noticable speed decrease. Can I do this for the hard drive too? I hate doing hacks to get various apps to work on my system, and their slow when they do work.

Thanks in advance, duane.

thanks. Will it run at native speed, as if it was x86?

I'm running a AMD X2 4800+ on Gentoo X86 with zero issues.

as a amd64 user... a question:
what is the point in having a 64bit if using only 32 of them...

and for amd64 you can use a x86 with no problems, but for an intel 64bit.... as far as I know... it is quite a different story.

that's exactly why I did it.

The x86 kernel was much harder to configure-the amd64 version had a very nice default configuration for it. I had to check off something for sound, but that was it.
On x86, I had to install various SATA drivers, ethernet drivers, usb drivers... It's all one big headache. Though I find it's slightly faster.
