not much to report, followed pretty much the same procedure i used on my ibm t40p. to emerge beryl (i didnt use compiz) you might need to change your ACCEPT_KEYWORDS to ~x86, thats the only thing out of the ordinary i did.

btw, i hope this is in the right spot, and i didnt find any other posts about this so i dunno if anyone else has done it but i wanted to let people know it works fine.

by using hanno's overlay. you can do the manual checkout or use layman (check gentoo-wiki for aiglx for install tips)

Would you mind posting your xorg.conf? I've been having a hell of a time getting all the options right... And it's unstable as hell for me :( Everything's blue, it eventually runs out of memory, and when I suspend and try to restart X I get no better resolution than 640x480. Thanks for any tips!

I don't have any cool mouse options set just yet so you might not want to copy this exactly but the other sections dealing with AIGLX all seem to be fine. I'm really surprised i'm the first one to post anything about this. Hope this helps

I tried to use AIGLX on my gentoo ppc64 system, and it didnt work. The beryl and related packages could be emerged successfully on my system, but when I executed veryl-manager I got:
-- Splash of beryl-manager, then
-- White screen.
The error messages when beryl-manager was executed:

no need to change your profile to ~x86 or other, you can unmask only beryl and related, so you keep your system stable except for the little pieces that you like/need (beryl, googleearth...)

for beryl you need the following : (from http://gentoo-wiki.com/Beryl)

Quote:

File: /etc/portage/package.keywords

#Beryl Core
=x11-wm/beryl-0.1*
=x11-wm/beryl-core-0.1*
=x11-plugins/beryl-plugins-0.1*
=x11-plugins/beryl-dbus-0.1*
=x11-misc/beryl-manager-0.1*
=x11-misc/beryl-settings-0.1*
=x11-apps/xlsclients-1.0*
=x11-apps/xvinfo-1.0*
=x11-libs/libwnck-2.16*

#Experimental Plugins
x11-plugins/beryl-group-plugin -*

#Window Decorators
=x11-wm/emerald-0.1*
=x11-misc/emerald-themes-0.1*
x11-wm/aquamarine -*
x11-wm/heliodor -*

for any other package, just edit the same file and add what you need in it

Code:
nano -w /etc/portage/package.keywords
type/name ~* *

I've installed beryl as said. And the beryl manager starts, but I get this one error:

Code:
stmiller@stmiller ~ $ beryl-manager
stmiller@stmiller ~ $ XGL Absent, checking for NVIDIA
Nvidia Absent, assuming AIGLX
beryl: No composite extension

Code:
stmiller@stmiller ~ $ beryl-xgl
XGL Absent, checking for NVIDIA
Nvidia Absent, assuming AIGLX
beryl-xgl: No composite extension

I have a Radeon 9600 128MB AGP card in my Powermac G5. Using the kernel driver (r300 radeon dri). For some reason, the aiglx is not there, or won't load. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, replying to my own post, but doing this at the end of my xorg.conf made beryl start:

Code:
Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "true"
EndSection

I noticed some had luck with saying "false" but for me that didn't work, and making it "true" works.

This is using the r300 driver for radeon in the kernel.

----------
Edit: Well trying again, the above does make Beryl start, but X just locked up.

Are you having any luck with Beryl? I'm just trying it now, and after a number of lockups on startup it eventually started and seems to be running okay.

So far I can't decide if I like all the eye candy or hate it. I'm sure I can play with the configurations and make the worst of the wobbly menu annoyances go away.

Anyway, it's interesting to see that Beryl does indeed run on PPC.

I have a very strange problem with beryl and AIGLX. When I fire beryl up, everything seems to work fine, except my entire screen gets turned to a light shade of blue. If I flip the "cube" to the top and bottom, the beryl logo there has the perfect orange and red color scheme, but everything else is blue. Quitting beryl restores everything to its original colors. I have no idea why it would be doing this, or even where to start looking for answers. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Jeremy

What is your xorg-server version? I remember that I had color problem with beryl before I upgraded xorg-server to version 1.1.1-r3. May be your can try to upgrade your xorg-server in case your version is less than 1.1.1-r3.
