Hello all. I have a G3. it has a 24x CD rom drive. i really want the full 860 meg install of gentoo. i cant wait to use this distro!! but i have the problem of getting 860 megs of data onto a 700 meg cd... hmm. how have other people done this? i think i have floating about a dvd rom drive off an old laptop. but if i cant find it, how can i go about installing this? FYI, the mac is standard, has a tray loading cd, erm. 6 gig hd, has mac os on it working as new (clean install from original cd).

Thank you soooooooooo much in advance!!!

The best way to install is to install a stage 3. The additional packages on the install CD can be installed by loop mounting the ISO, and copying/installing the packages from there afterwards.

To loop mount an ISO:
Code:

mount -o loop isoname.iso /mnt/<location>

As an aside, I'm not sure what you're expecting from Gentoo to be honest. :) There really isn't a "full" 860 meg install of Gentoo, the packages on that CD include gnome and KDE, you probably don't need both. Gentoo isn't quite the same as other distros in that sense.

Aynway, if you need more help, let us know.

As of now i have downloaded the install cd and am gonna try and install it. then ill add some packages to it :) ill be sure to write back here if i get stuck!!
