|Hi. I wanted to mention that replacing INIT with initng caused my PowerBook to bootup more than 2.5 times faster. My PPC laptop has always been extremely slow to bootup with the Gentoo baselayout scripts. (An x86 with the same CPU MHz and hard drive speed is many times faster than the PPC machine at running INIT scripts).
I replaced INIT with 'initng' from http://www.initng.org/. Now the laptop boots a full server's set of services (LDAP, apache, cups, samba, postfix, dbus/hald, many many more...) in less than 60 seconds, instead of 2-3 minutes.
Thought I'd mention it for the performance extremists out there.
