Hi folks,
I got an iBook G4 12" whit 1.33 GHz CPU and ATI Mobility Radeon 9550. I would install Gentoo on it, but I need some information before removing Mac OS X:
1) CPU Throlling State is enabled? How many states scaling are possible?
2) The video card accelaration in enabled? If yes, how?
3) Video Dual head can be enabled?
4) The Airport Wireless is supported?
5) Function buttons (like fn+F*) are enabled?
6) Modem modules is avaible?
7) Touchpad scrolling is avaible?
8 ) Network card module is avaible?
9) And Bluetooh?

I would to try to leave Mac OS but I also need to work whit this machine, so I cannot switch to not fully supported system.
Thanx all for attention.

Simoleso

1. Yes it is, 2 states are available (100% and 50% cpu speed). To get this working look at this question in the FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#laptoppkgs
2. Yes, it should work fine, again, look at the FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#xorg
3. Yes, but this is a little harder. There are configs available, or you can wait for xac-0.6 (new version of Xorgautoconfig) which should be done soon which sets this up for you.
4. Yes: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#airportextreme
5. Yes, pbbuttonsd does this, see the FAQ question in #1
6. No, and it doesn't look like anyone is interesting in making this work
7. If you have a synaptics touchpad, yes, or with this kernel patch for older machines: http://www.cs.unibo.it/~bigoi/
8. Yes (SunGEM)
9. Yes

he he, Jose is very optimistic. I have exactly the same iBook like you (G4, 1.33GHz)

1) CPU Throlling State is enabled? How many states scaling are possible?
Yes
2) The video card accelaration in enabled? If yes, how?
Yes, see ppc-faq
3) Video Dual head can be enabled?
Don't know

4) The Airport Wireless is supported?
If you have BCM 4306 Airport Extreme, then it doesn't work properly
secure modes don't work
Signal level is extreamly low - so that no chance to use any public WiFi point.

5) Function buttons (like fn+F*) are enabled?
In early kernels like 2.16.17 - Yes.
Any new kernel - NO

6) Modem modules is avaible?
Don't know

7) Touchpad scrolling is avaible?
Yes

8 ) Network card module is avaible?
Yes

9) And Bluetooh?
Should work

I'm not sure what you mean, what I said is still true :p

For wireless, the 4306 should be supported the best out of all bcm43xx cards. The signal strength should be close to OSX levels. If it's not, then something is wrong and you should let the development team know. For what it's worth, I have a 4318 in my powerbook and as long as I get near the access point, it works fine. My 4306 PCMCIA card works just fine anywhere. Secure modes work fine as well (I'm connected via WEP right now). Some things are not supported, such as hidden SSIDs (broken on SoftMAC only), adhoc (broken on SoftMAC only) or Master mode, but none of these should be all that important.

I'm not sure what you mean for the function buttons. They should work fine in either kernel. Can you describe your problem more? Are you using the latest pbbuttonsd?

Does this mean that I can connect to hidden SSIDs with the devicescape stack?

It should work, but I've never tried it.
