I use the radeon driver for Xorg on an AlBook. How can I configure the drive to use only the external monitor (TMDS) and turn off the internal laptop Panel?

i'm not very experienced with the radeo driver, but why not use clone-mode and close the lid?

cheers,

Clone mode gets me half-way.

Code:

# ---------- Layout CLONE for cloning native resolution of external monitor  ----------
Section "Device"
        Identifier      "CLONE_pri"
        Driver          "radeon"
        BusID           "PCI:0:16:0"
        Option          "MonitorLayout"         "LVDS, TMDS"
        Option          "MetaModes" "1280x854-1600x1200 1280x854+1600x1200"
        Option          "MergedDPI" "100 100"
        Option          "CRT2Position" "Clone"
        Option          "AGPMode" "4"
        Option          "AGPFastWrite" "1"
        Option          "DisplayPriority"       "HIGH"
        Option          "ColorTiling"           "1"
        Option          "IgnoreEDID"            "0"
        Option          "EnablePageFlip"                "1"
        Option          "EnableDepthMoves"      "1"
        Option          "RenderAccel"           "1"
        Option          "DynamicClocks"         "1"
        Option          "DMAForXv"              "1"
        Option          "DDCMode"               "0"

        # limit, as no limit incurs "virtual size"
        # errors for some CRTs
        #Option         "CRT2HSync"             "56-90"
        Option          "CRT2VRefresh"          "55-65"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier      "CLONE_int"
        Device          "CLONE_pri"
        Monitor         "LTN152W3-DPMS"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection  "Display"
                Depth   24
                Modes   "1280x854"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier      "CLONE"
        Screen          "CLONE_int"
        InputDevice     "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
        InputDevice     "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

But now how do I do one of the following:

  • have Xorg automatically disable the Panel
  • maintain the panel brightness at 0, regardless of activity (ie, idle, then activity, laptop panel turns on again)
