Hi, I just got a Gentoo stage 3 + fluxbox running on my 12" Powerbook G4 1.5 GHz. Got the wireless up and configurable on the command line via wireless-tools, installed firefox and a few other bare essentials.

I need some help/pointers.

- I find myself in want of a GUI application to control the AirPort and Bluetooth adapters - turning them on and off (since turning them off saves on battery time), associating with access points, etc. As well as something to read the battery level and let me know when I am getting low.
- Fonts. Argh, it's painful to use any web browser right now as the fonts are almost unreadable. I found the Gentoo Wiki page for enabling antialiased fonts, but I seem to not have the configuration right. (I was able to accomplish this successfully on my desktop with LCD monitor but not on here). Anyone have similar hardware with this successfully configured?
- Yaboot help. I can't seem to get back into MacOSX as of right now. Also, I have to enter my root device (/dev/hda6) on the command line every time I boot. Maybe I am missing a kernel parameter? Here's my partition layout:
Code:
nirvana mnt # mac-fdisk /dev/hda
/dev/hda
Command (? for help): p
/dev/hda
        #                    type name                  length   base      ( size )  system
/dev/hda1     Apple_partition_map Apple                     63 @ 1         ( 31.5k)  Partition map
/dev/hda2         Apple_Bootstrap untitled                2048 @ 64        (  1.0M)  NewWorld bootblock
/dev/hda3               Apple_HFS Untitled           119175270 @ 262208    ( 56.8G)  HFS
/dev/hda4              Apple_Free Extra                 260096 @ 2112      (127.0M)  Free space
/dev/hda5         Apple_UNIX_SVR2 swap                 1048576 @ 119437478 (512.0M)  Linux swap
/dev/hda6         Apple_UNIX_SVR2 root                35815434 @ 120486054 ( 17.1G)  Linux native

and my /etc/yaboot.conf

Code:
nirvana mnt # cat /etc/yaboot.conf
## yaboot.conf generated by yabootconfig 1.0.8
##
## run: "man yaboot.conf" for details. Do not make changes until you have!!
##
## For a dual-boot menu, add one or more of:
## bsd=/dev/hdaX, macos=/dev/hdaY, macosx=/dev/hdaZ

boot=/dev/hda2
device=/pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0:
partition=6
root=/dev/hda6
timeout=30
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot

image=/boot/kernel-genkernel-ppc-2.6.18-gentoo-r1
        label=Linux
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initramfs-genkernel-ppc-2.6.18-gentoo-r1
        initrd-size=8192

macos=/dev/hda13
macosx=/dev/hda12
enablecdboot
enableofboot

- Touchpad/keyboard config - I somehow need to be able to simulate a right-click and can't currently do it with the "normal" method (ctrl+click) so I am stuck using a USB mouse for now.

Any help with any of these is appreciated....

Hello :)

i can't help you for most of your questions, but for yaboot, i think your "error" is that the macosx line in your yaboot.conf is wrong, it should be:
Code:

macosx=/dev/hda3

it s also strange that you have a "macos" line, because i dont think that your pbook can boot on Mac Os 9 :) so i think that you can delete it

Also, can't get snd-aoa compiled. According to the sound faq I'm in need of this....

Use the in-kernel snd-aoa instead.

Did some googling and realized I hadn't run ybin -v to install the new yaboot conf file. Wow, is this PPC stuff different than x86....

:)
