I'm trying to install Gentoo on a G4. I downloaded Gentoo 2006.1 Minimal CD/InstallCD ppc (32-bit) and am trying to do that. Here's the errors that I get when it bails out:

Code:
* Setting system clock using the hardware clock [UTC] ...
* hwclock: settimeofday() failed, errno=22: Invalid argument.
* Failed to set system clock to hardware clock                                          [ !! ]
* Failed to start /etc/init.d/clock

* One or more critical startup scripts failed to start!
* Please correct this, and reboot ...

Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D to continue):

Are there any solutions on getting past this so that I can install the system? I would use 2006.0, but there were bugs that stopped me a while ago from using that one, and I would prefer not go back to 2005.1-r1.

well i don't know how to disable /etc/init.d/clock or whatever fails to work.

i might think that maybe you could pass a kernel option that disables hardware clock support, but i certainly wouldn't know anything about what that option would be or where to find it.

but i do have a thought - you may want to use that 2005.1 cd. the system you install with it won't be outdated (unless you use the 2005.1 package cd), as long as you download the current stage3 and portage snapshot you'll get an up-to-date 2006.1 system. so there isn't really any harm in using 2005.1 unless 2006.1 supports something 2005.1 doesn't.

Thanks, the link in a link worked. That step required me to go into the open firmware and set the date / time.
