not having tried, i'd thought i'd as.

is it possible to switch over userlands from 32 bit to 64 bit? just a matter of changing profiles? has anyone done this?

No, I don't think so. At least you have to recompile all userland applications against the 64-bit profile if you have been running 64-bit kernel already.

wyz i think that is an understood point that i'd have to recompile everything.

i'm asking, cus when i switched to a 32 ul, i tried just changing the profile, and things just started screaming murder.

not sure if i can just change the profile, recompile my toolchain, and then emerge an emptytree.

or is that not going to work, and better to just rebuild the whole machine from scratch.

i guess i could download the 64 ul stage 3, and start from there?

Yes, you can. Just chroot and install.
