From what I read in some of the older posts, installing Gentoo requires OS9 be installed. Is this still the case? I got OS10.2 running on it (I needed to wipe the disk anyway) and I wanted to put Linux on it (replace 10.2 if possible).

Do I need to put OS9 back on it, or can I keep 10.2 and add Linux? Is there a way to put Linux on it as the only OS (and is that wise?).

Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Carol

It is highly recommended that OS9 remain installed, but you do need some version of MacOS to run BootX from, OSX won't work for this. If you decide not to leave MacOS, you will need to set up and install Quik, the instructions are in the handbook. The only issue is that if you do screw things up, there is no fallback method of booting since the Gentoo CDs are really only compatible with the BootX (from MacOS) method of booting.

Hmmm. I took off 9.2 when I installed 10.2. But I have an OS9 install disk. I guess I'll try to put that on it and go from there.

Thanks for the help!
