PostPosted: Sun Feb 04, 2007 7:05 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED] Ab iword - fonts not found error Reply with quote

Hi there,
I have Gentoo on a PPC. Abiword is installed. When started it gives an error message saying that:
"Abiword has not been able to find any font. Please check that You have configured your font.config file correctly."
And exits.

I have checked font.config - it is sitting at its place in /etc/fonts or so. It points to existing directories as I have seen - or better saying simple logic would not find it broken.
I have neither used Abi recently, nor any major updates has happened, and nothing as I remember that could have influence /etc (I think 'emerge pcalc' can not take a part in the story.)

I unmerged Abi, cleared every related files i could find and re-emerged it. Still the same.

So, what to do now?
Thank for any advise.

PS. I have put this post first to Desktop Environment but I removed it for not much response I had. On the other hand I have installed Abiword on a PC_AMD_64bit, and it is working fine.
It might be a PPC specific problem maybe....

This is the only thing I found: http://www.abisource.com/mailinglists/abiword-dev/2004/Mar/0420.html

Can you perhaps do an strace to see what it's actually doing?

Thanx, JoseJX, I have checked it - i have the fc command run here and it reported no problem. Still, Abi is complainins.
I would strace it but give me details how to do it. re-emerge with debug?

No, strace is a program that shows all of the system calls that are called (open files, etc.). This might let us know what it's looking for. Just emerge strace, then run strace abiword.

It will be very long, so if you can help it, please don't paste it into the forums.

I have downloaded the abiword-2.4.6.tar.gz from the Abiword site, compiled it and it seems working fine.
I hope this is not a seem only.... :)
