Hi there,
I am struggling with alsa. I followed the alsa howto, but still it is down.
Can someone help me which sound module is used on these G4 TiBooks? mine is with 8MB ATI card, from 2001.
I would use the alsa of the kernel.

lspci won't show anything useful on PPC since the sound card is on the i2c bus.

Salmonix:
Did you look at the PPC FAQ for getting ALSA working?
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#alsa

With that laptop, you'll use the PowerMAC driver, not snd-aoa.

Yes. I have checked PowermacDMA is off, and I compiled the PowerMAC (AWACS...etc) drivers as modules.
Running alsaconf still no soundcard is found....
(there is soundcard for it worked with MacOS)

alsaconf will not find the card since it is not on the PCI/ISA bus. Check your dmesg on startup to see if the driver was loaded.

Try the following to see if snd-powermac is loaded.
Code:
lsmod
If it's not listed, confirm that alsa was built as a module and add snd-powermac to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

Also, which version of udev are you using? If it's udev-104, try downgrading to udev-103. Remember to use etc-update after changing udev.
Code:
emerge =udev-103
etc-update
