I've recently installed the new OpenOffice.org 2.1, but I'm quite dissatisfied with it's looks, because it really doesn't blend with my GNOME desktop. Here are some screenshots of OpenOffice.org and Abiword so that you can compare:

I've compiled OpenOffice.org with the following options:

[ebuild R ] app-office/openoffice-2.1.0 USE="cairo cups dbus eds firefox gnome gstreamer gtk -binfilter -branding -debug -java -kde -ldap -odk -pam -seamonkey -sound -webdav"

Am I missing something?

PS: and yes, I do like Ubuntu's brown theme. :P

I doubt that it's a fonts problem since the icons etc look old as well, but you could check it out anyways:

No, the fonts are good. The problem is that OpenOffice.org doesn't seem to make use of GTK+ or GNOME integration. Hence the old icons (and not the icons provided by the GNOME theme) and the horrible widgets (not themed).

Do you have OpenOffice.org with GNOME support? If so, can you post your "emerge -pv openoffice" output, please?

I don't think that it will be of any help though:

Quote:
localhost devin # emerge -pv openoffice

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] app-office/openoffice-2.0.4 USE="firefox gstreamer gtk java ldap pam -binfilter -branding -cairo -cups -dbus -debug -eds -gnome -kde -odk -sound -webdav" LINGUAS="-af -ar -be_BY -bg -bn -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en -en_GB -en_US -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -fr -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja -km -ko -lt -lv -mk -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -th -tn -tr -ts -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 0 kB

I'm running Fluxbox instead of gnome.

You're not missing anything. Work is being done now to integrate OO.o better with GTK, but at this time, you're stuck with the ugly brute. :)

But this is kind of strange, since OpenOffice.org 2.0.x was not ugly and made good use of the user's current GTK+ theme.

Hmm, well, it's always been ugly for me :p

Maybe try deleting ~/.ooo-2.0 and see if that fixes it.

Allright, I found the problem and, as always, the blame goes to the user. When I last updated dbus, I did a revdep-rebuild and reemerged all the packages, *except* openoffice, because it takes about 15 hours to emerge. After reemerging openoffice, I got the good looks back.

For me disabling in Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> View the Use system font for user interface option helped a lot. By disabling it, OOo seems to use the default GTK+ (Gnome) fonts.
