Hi all I'm trying to install gentoo and am needing a little reasurance.
my partition map is like this:
hda 1-10 apple mac

16, debian boot
17,deb /
20 debswap
21deb home

12 22gb spare

13,ubuntu boot
14 ubuntu /
15 ubuntu swap

11 7gb ext3 (spare)

18 15.gb ext3 (spare)

I am using the ppc universal live cd and trying to work my way through the install. I would like to either install over ubuntu on 13,14,15 or use 12 which ever is the easiest!! I have got as far as "download and install portage" it is tryd to untar but said no space on device? any pointer gratefully recieved thank

Before you untar portage and your stage-3 you need to decided which partition you are going to use for Gentoo's root, format it, and mount it.

BTW, you have one of the wackiest partition tables I have every seen. ;-)

Thankyou thankyou thankyou sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees!!! I am not using the "ppc universal live cd " as it does not exist!!! I am using the ppc universal cd

I should explain I'm dyslexic so can quite often "see words" that dont exist !!! think I'm typing one word and type another etc makes using the cli a real joy. :D

My partition tables are a little strange I agree. I feel comfortable with the debian partitoner so when I was installing etch I though I'd setup some more partitions so I could try other distros. Hence 12 is for ubuntu types that just want free space and 11+18 for root + home types distros. As a real noob partitioning scares the heebee geebees out of me lol.

Anyway thanks again, I did laugh when I realised it was not a live cd!!
