Hello all,

I've been installing gentoo on my ibook g4 since yesterday. I seem to continue having problems with various packages compiling. libbonobo doesn't respond to the few changes I've made. I'm in links and so it's difficult to copy and paste. However, the highest error says to hide preprocessor errors. it then trys to compile another file. upon reaching Bonobo_GenericFactory.h it states error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before "POA_Bonobo_Unknown_epv' it then quits the make after exiting folders. I suspect this is due to either my CFLAGS or USE flags. Both of which I've already had trouble with other packages and am trying to find the correct ones to use. I've run gentoo on a pc before and didn't have this trouble so I suspect it has to do with ppc configurations. the specific CFLAGS I have are -O2 -pipe -mcpu=7450 -maltivec -mabi=altivec. the USE flags are just normal ones like kde, gnome, etc.

Another problem I'm having is while in console using backspace or tab will create dot "characters" which won't delete and causes me to hit return inorder to restart what I was typing.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was able to get libbonobo to work. I fixed cflags and had mistakenly used USEFLAGS instead of USE... it's been a while since I've played with gentoo. However, the problem with the dots persists. I've never seen it before and am unsure how to approach that. Basically they are non characters... they are only displayed. I say non characters because if I use backspace to try to delete them and instead it deletes what ever is in front of the dots. if I use backspace till I have erased everything on the line then dots will be created and the only way to remove them is to press enter. If any one knows a solution to this or can give me a lead as to where I can start to solve this problem. I would appreciate it.

What kind of machine? Are you using the correct framebuffer driver for your video card? The FAQ has the correct options in the "Configuring X" section.
