I got gentoo installed on my ps3 and am trying to install xmame. Everytime I emerge xmame I get this error:

!!! ERROR: games-emulation/xmame-0.106 failed.
Call stack:
ebuild.sh, line 1614: Called dyn_compile
ebuild.sh, line 971: Called qa_call 'src_compile'
environment, line 3488: Called src_compile
xmame-0.106.ebuild, line 152: Called die

!!! emake failed (SDL)
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
!!! A complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/games-emulation/xmame-0.106/temp/build.log'.

Whats the problem?

Ok lol I just turned my ps3 off. Just turned it back on and emerging it again so I can post the end of the log would really like to get mame working tonight.. I think the problem is that it says something like atcs command not found alot at the end of the log which is probably why its not working.

Its been awhile since I've compiled MAME on Linux, but try compiling without arts support.

(My guess is you aren't using KDE and arts sound server on PS3 anyways)

well I compiled it without the arts and it worked but now it gets an error everytime I try to run a game. It says its messing some files required to run the game everytime I try to run a game. I installed the gxmame and tried it in that and tried running the games from the treminal and it keeps getting the error. How do I get the games to run?

It would help if you posted the exact error but my guess is you don't
have roms for any games. Those do not come with MAME as there are
a number of legal issues. A search on google for MAME roms will probably
give you some tips on where to find some.

I have roms and it seems gxmame comes with a bunch of roms too. I tried both the roms I downloaded and the ones that came with gxmame and they all giive the same error.

OK, if you have roms mame is peculiar when it comes to the location
of its roms. You probably didn't put them in the right location or
called with right option. Try something like this:
Code:

xmame.SDL -rp /full/path/to/the/rom/ gamename

Of course it could be that you have some old roms that don't have
some stuff required by a new version of mame. I just found one like
that on my computer while looking at your problem.

I just checked and the version of gxmame in portage doesn't include
any roms. gxmame like mame will list all the games that can be loaded
regardless of the fact that you have the roms or not.

fb is right. You need ROM files.

You'll have to google for them, as we don't/can't discuss such things on these forums. (So don't ask.) :-)

I got this working. I have the roms the problem was that i wasnt putting a space between the rom name and the path to it and I was called the wrong directory to the roms which is why it wouldnt run it in the gxmame gui. Last question how do i change the resolution of the games?
