Is there some way to put my G5 powermac (running on 64bit kernel & UL) to sleep??
tried to compile the sys-kernel/suspend2-sources an relative hibernate scripts but no hope (as expected however...).
For the various macbook it seems possible, but I found nothing about powermacs.
Any hints??

Johannes Berg had some patches that he sent recently to allow such a thing, so, suspend to disk should work fine. Suspend to RAM will not work if you have a Nvidia card and may work with a Radeon and a very recent kernel.
Here's the patch series, I don't know about the final result:

not yet able to suspend the system, but i've made some few steps ahead...

first: the right place for the patch is http://johannes.sipsolutions.net/patches/powerpc-suspend-9/. those must be all applied against the sys-kernel/git-sources (kernel >2.6.20)
second: found that the "Software Suspend" option is dependent upon some other options, one of those is !SMP, but it shouldn't because was developed for a quad core; so i've managed to change that condition deleting it on the file "kernel/power/Kconfig", than i was able to select both option and compile the kernel correctly.

now, the newly compiled kernel boots without problem but:
Code:

# echo disk > /sys/power/state
bash: echo: write error: No such device

keep on trying...

ps: many thanks to Johannes Berg (the patch's author) to gave me some hints

ok. found the right way to show the option for the software suspend: it depends on the HOTPLUG_CPU
now i'm able to suspend to disk and resume correctly...
and i'm very happy with that :D

many thanks to Johannes Berg again

I was wondering if these patches (eventually) are available in other kernel type sources like mm-sources?
