I am trying to install gentoo-ppc on an Powerbook G4 with airport extreme. The actual card is according to net-setup "Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN." I ran net-setup, put in all the pertinent info, but at the end i get an error
Code:

bcm43xx: Error: Microcode "bcm43xx_microcode5.fw" not available or load failed.

everything looks normal in iwconfig, except of course no signal.

This looks to be a driver problem. What should i do? The wired ethernet doesn't work on the machine.
I used the minimal install cd, and am now downloading the bigger one to see if it has more drivers.

Also, the CD i just downloaded was version 2006.1. Is there a more up to date CD?

Wireless drivers for the Airport Extreme are not supported on the LiveCD due to firmware licensing issues. For instructions on getting the firmware, etc, see the topic sticky at the top of this forum. Because we cannot ship the firmware with the InstallCD, you cannot use it as is, the driver is complaining about missing firmware there.

The ethernet should work fine with the drivers on the CD (or do you mean that it's not physically working on the machine?).

Hmm, I don't think I'll put this one in the FAQ. :)

Glad you got it working!
