Hi, I've downloaded the 2006.1 Universal CD, but I have problems booting it. I've tried with two iMacs (that booted without problems an old version... i think it was the 2006.0), on the first (iMac g3@600, 640MB ram, 40GB lg hard drive; it is the one that i want use to install) it starts to boot and hangs with "running hdparm on /dev/hda"; on the second (imac g3@400, 320MB ram, 10GB fireball hd; used only to test the cd) it starts completely, says that it cant scramble the root password and replyes

Code:
 cannot execute binary file

when i try to do almost everything (including using the "shutdown" command).

I downloaded the disc 2 times (the first from bittorrent, the second from a mirror), the md5 was right and i burned on 2 different discs with 2 different programs (always on mac os x: disk utility & toast titanium 7).

what can i do?

You're the first person to report such a problem. :(

What was the MD5sum of the CD? I want to check to make sure you've got the right one.

Well, that's the right CD then. Were the discs burnt on the same media as the 2006.0? Some older drives do have issues with newer (faster) CDs. I can only use certain brands in my 8500.

Also, when you get the "cannot execute binary file" error message, can you check dmesg to see what that says, perhaps that will shed some light on the issue.

those cds where Verbatim's cd-rw. i used the first one a lot, so i at first thought about a disk problem, but the second one was new.
