Hi everybody, so i played somed days around with the PS3 on Gentoo.. and i ordered an Harddrive Extender for it and
an Western Digital Raptor X as drive for it my question is the XDR Memory is only 256 MB...
Could is speed up Gentoo with some OCZ VBoost memory sticks and use them as Swap Space for Gentoo?
And how schould i format the drive for best performance?
And can i only use Ext3 as filesystem on my other PPC machines i use JFS :(

1. Your proposal for faster swap is valid. I don't know if the bus is actually faster or not. The real issue is to try and avoid swapping.

2. We have not dont performance tests on the ps3 to definatively determine which fs is fastest. i suspect at this point ext would be the fastest but others have tried alternatives like reiser and xfs.

3. You can use JFS but...
- you will need to rebuild the otheros image with JFS support OR
- create a small ext3 disk partition where you can stick the kernels, initrd (if need be), and etc/kboot.conf . make sure the kernel itself has jfs enabled. I cannot remember offhand if I enabled that in the stage4 tarballs.
