i recently updated my ibook and somehow tapping is back. i have seached on how to remove it and what i found seemed outdated. i am running pbbuttonsd 0.8.0. i tried TPMode=notap but that didnt do anything. restarted and rebooted. then i found this http://cmr.cx/ibook/linux/kernel-patches/notap_2.6.17-rc4.patch and tried it, that doesnt work either. does anyone know how to remove the tapping? i am not all that familiar with the kernel, does anyone understand that patch ?

and does anyone know why the name of the pbbuttons conf file is pbbuttons.cfg and not pbbuttonsd.conf ? seems like a silly dos limitation.

/me is pissed about the tapping - cant use the ibook till its fixed.

thanks

matt

also, how many different ways can tapping be disabled ? before i disabled it in pbbuttons. and i just tried to patch the kernel. and then a friend says he disables it in xorg.conf, but he is on x86.

perhaps a survey, who likes the tapping. seems like the default should be off.

Try this: emerge sys-apps/powerpc-utils and then run "trackpad notap". This should disable tappind. You can also put "trackpad notap" in the file /etc/conf.d/local.start so that it is executed everytime the computer is powered on. That's what I do.

Glad it worked. I've discovered it just last week. :) Don't forget to put a "[solved]" in the thread name.

If you're using pbbuttonsd-0.8.0, try upgrading to 0.8.1. From the changelog for 0.8.1:

* fix typo in module_pmac.c that prevents pbbuttonsd from
loading the trackpad mode from the config file. Thanks
to Fernando J. Pereda for his patch.

Sounds relevant. :p

powerpc-utils are only for really old machines. Are you sure you set pbbuttonsd up correctly? The config format changed with version 0.8.0. Try emerging powerprefs and using that to set up pbbuttonsd.

Also, are you using synaptics or just the mouse device?

Well, that looks fine too. I'll try it on my powerbook.

is there any debug or verbose i can set? it seems that trackpad notap worked at one point, not all i get is an error from that "no trackpad!". where is the notap option set? is that in the kernel or xorg driver ?

thanks
