Hello, I am following http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/cell/wiki/InstallGentooOnPS3.
I am new to Linux, let alone Gentoo.
This is my first install of linux.
I have used live boot discs before, but this is my first real install.
Basically I have done everything up to the point where you actually Install the Base System.
I get to 'livecd gentoo # links2 http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/experimental/ppc64/stages/,' and I get an error. Unable to connect. I know it's not the spelling because I'm also unable to connect to other websites like google. I also know it's not the webpage, because it works fine on my computer. I also know it's not the internet connection, because my computer can connect fine. I also know it's not the PS3, because I can use the Internet Browser fine. It is Gentoo.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get it to work..
Also, I'm using an Ethernet connection, not a wireless connection.
If there is a way to simply download the stage 4 tarball and the portage on my computer and plug a USB drive in, I would gladly do that, however I don't know how to actually copy it through the linux interface.

Thank you for the help...

Edit: Also, how do I go back to the XMB (Cross Media Browser) from the Linux Interface? quit and exit do nothing, esc shows E^ and cntrl alt delete just resets the ps3 in linux again. PS3 controller cannot connect also...

Hy,

I think you are sitting behind an embedded firewall (DSL-Router).

Can you ping the firewall internally or can you ping your other PC from the PS3 ???

Plz post the output from the following commands

Code:

ifconfig -a
cat /etc/make.conf
netstat -rn

Hope it helps
regards
J0inty

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think I have an embedded firewall in my router, but I have had to do things like forward ports in order to host games/internet radio, etc. So that might mean I do...

I don't know wat you mean by ping the firewall internally, but I'm pretty sure I cannot ping my pc to my ps3 since yesterday I was using 1 ethernet cable, 1 mouse, and 1 keyboard between my ps3 and my computer.

Also, I'm using a 15" tv and I can hardly read anything on the screen.
I'll see if I can set it up on the 73 incher downstairs (OH THE IRONY) and do those commands such that I can actually read it and therefor post the output.

I'll get back asap...

EDIT - In the mean time can someone help me with getting back to the PS3 OS.. It's kinda important...

EDIT - Figured it out, you type 'boot-game-os' from Kboot. Still need to get it connected so I can type those commands...

EDIT - Ok kinda big deal now, I can't get Kboot to load the cd... When I put it in and run kboot it just loads all the drivers and crap, then it goes into debug mode and nothing happens..
The command promt has no prefix (It just has a blinking underscore) and it doesn't recognize any commands I found on the internets.
I tried
boot-game-os
$ sudo boot-game-os
Nothing happens with both.
I finally got it to restart in XMB mode by holding the reset switch for 5 seconds while it was off...
Everyone is always AFK on the #gentoo-ppc64 channel, I'm totally lost.
Why is it so buggy?
