I have a strange question. I have recently acquired a Broadcom 4306 wireless card from a broken Gateway laptop, and was wondering if it would be possible to replace or put it in alongside of my built-in Airport Extreme on my Powerbook G4 15" Aluminum. The reason for wanting to do this is obviously to gain better linux support, as the 4306 is fully supported from what I've read. I've opened my laptop once already, but I couldn't find anything that resembled a wireless card to me. What's worse, I've now somehow killed my keyboard's backlight functionality :( And I've probably voided my warranty in the process, although I'm not sure about that one. Maybe Apple won't be able to tell it's been opened? :-/ Well anywho, is this even feasable? I haven't found any docs about this sort of thing anywhere. And as a side note, does anyone know how I may be able to fix my keyboard backlight? :-D Thank you in advance!!!!

Jeremy

I don't think it's possible, the PC card you got is probably mini-PCI, while the Airport Extreme has a proprietary connector.

It looks like this.

Edit: actually there seems to be several models of the Airport card for use in PowerBooks. Some probably use the "normal" card though, as the site mentions it's "... for PowerBook G4, iBook G4 ...".

Yeah, mine is the Aluminum, so that definitely doesn't appear that it would be replaceable with the card I have. Well now that that's out of the question, I just have to find out what I may have done to kill my keyboard backlight :-/ Thank you!

Maybe check that pbbuttonsd is working and that you have both the Keywest I2C and sysv IPC enabled. The replacement 4306 definitely won't work though, sorry.

My keyboard magically started working again due to unknown reasons. So I guess that's resolved now! :-D

Thank you!
