I've decided to remove gentoo from my old laptop (only to put it on my newer one :) I have deleted the root and swap partitions but left the boot one, so of course it still boots into the yaboot menu to choose between os x, linux or open firmware.

I remember getting rid of this and restoring the old straight into os x startup using the OSX install dvd before on another machine but i forget how!

I think there is some command line interface you can get up and issue a command to repair the master boot record? Can you do it from the open firmware?

Easiest solution: just boot into OS X, and in the System Preferences, select your OS X system as the startup disk. This will bypass the yaboot bootloader. The physical partition is still there, but that's not worth worrying about.
