Hello.

Does anyone use the PowerBooks optical digital sound output S/PDIF interface or has information if it is functional on linux?
Which connector is needed to use it?
Is the PowerBook G4 series the only providing digital sound output, the iBooks don't?

This would ease the high quality sound playback connected to any high quality DAC with standard interfaces. If the interface doesn't work the only solution could be a CEC DA53 dac. It provides a USB1.1 sound interface which very probably should work on linux.
At the end of this idea amaroK is going to become a high fidelity player.

your powerbook seems to be one of the newer ones. the sound card should be supported by the snd-aoa driver. is the optical output not shown in alsamixer, or do you have no sound at all?
