If I recall correctly, this machine (PowerMacintosh G4 500 AGP ("Sawtooth")) had sleep/suspend functionality under MacOS 9 and X. It's not important, but I'd like to be able to suspend-to-RAM.

From a working kernel configuration with no power management (gentoo-sources 2.6.21-r4), I have enabled the general kernel option "Power Manager Support" and the Macintosh device driver "APM Emulation".

When I tried to use HAL to put it to sleep, it failed:
Code:
# /usr/libexec/hal-system-power-pmu sleep
power-pmu : PMU_IOC_SLEEP failed

dmesg shows:
Code:
Sleep mode not supported on this machine

I noticed one of the kernel config dependencies of "APM Emulation" was "ADB PMU". I believe this machine makes no use of ADB and that the PMU is on the i2c bus.

Do I have the wrong kind of PMU for APM Emulation? If so, is it possible to suspend-to-ram/sleep this machine using an alternative approach?

Thanks.

I don't think any of the desktops support suspend to ram properly. You could try installing pbbuttonsd and telling it to sleep that way, it might work.

I tried that. It failed to start complaining that it couldn't find /dev/adb.

Oh well, just trying to be "green".

Thanks
