Just completed building and configuring my home server with the Hardened profile, and I discovered that it can't help with a distcc compile farm. Thus, I want to convert it to regular Gentoo, aka non-Hardened. Has anyone done this before? What are potential pitfalls? Or what do I need to do to make distcc work.

TIA

Try switching gcc profile to vanilla for using it as distcc helper. For compiling its own packages switch back to the hardened gcc-profile.

That's not quite the effect I was hoping for. The hardened computer needs the help more than it actually helps. Other computers get about a 20% boost from it, it gets a 500% boost.

The other way round should be possible too. Install and configure a hardened gcc profile to the other machines.

To change to a standard gentoo profile, just change the make.profile symlink and do a "emerge -e system ; emerge -e world" maybe you will get some blockers. So maybe it is better to start with a copy of your world file /var/lib/portage/world and the hand edited files from /etc on a new partition. Just unpack a stage 3, copy the files and after chroot do "emerge -e world". No packages are installed, so you should not get blockers.
