Hi!,
I'm trying to install Gentoo 2007.0 on my G4 1,2 GHz iBook.
The installation is fine, except, when I want to use GRP packages to install gnome.
I use "emerge --usepkg gnome", but I think it compiles, and when trying to install unzip (a dependence), it says:
!!! Couldn't download 'unzip552.tar.gz'. Aborting
My ibook is a networkless station... so i need to install from the grp cd :S
Any idea?
Thanks!
Edit:
----
This is my first post, so i don't know if it's the correct forum (maybe ppc?)
So... sorry if it's wrong :)

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on PPC.

With --usepkg portage first tries to find a prebuilt binary and if it can't find one it will try to download the sources to compile it. Since you don't have a network connection it fails to download the sources. If you have a grp cd mount it and make sure that PKGDIR in /etc/make.conf points to the packages dir on the cd.

Thx nixnut for moving the post :)
About the problem...
My environment variable (PKGDIR), points to /mnt/cdrom and in make.conf, PKGDIR also points to /mnt/cdrom

Ok, try --usepkgonly. If that fails, that means there is no binary package for unzip on the packages cd. There's limited space on a cd after all, so it may simply not be available. You'll have to download the sources then (perhaps on another machine) and put it in /usr/portage/distfiles.

I've tried with --usepkgonly, and when I try to "emerge --usepkgonly gnome" it tells: "there are no ebuilds to satisfy gnome" (not literally, my gentoo box is not close to me)
The unzip package is in the cd... :S
I'm going to reinstall again, and verify installation and packages cd checksum (maybe the package is wrong, and emerge doesn't use it)
It would be great if -v flag warning about that ;D
Tomorrow I'll post with my results...
Thanks for your help nixnut!!!
Oh!, sorry for my bad english, i'm spanish :)

Solved!!!
Thx to #gentoo-ppc ;) specially JoseJX
There is a "bug" in the handbook... portage search packages in $PKGDIR/All, not in $PKGDIR, so the solution is:
# mkdir -p /usr/portage/packages/All
# mount /dev/cdrom /usr/portage/packages/All
And it works! :D
