This is my first time installing Gentoo on an iBook G3. I'v installed Gentoo many times before on x86 with no issue. My problem tonight is when I get to the boot prompt I hit enter, it appears to boot for about 2 seconds then stops at core99_setup_cpu 0 done. Then I get a white bar across about 50% of the top line of the screen then the 5 bottom lines on the screen. When I say line I mean line of text so how many ever pixels high that is. I'v been searching the forum and I am at a dead end here.

Most likely, you didn't compile in support for a framebuffer console. PPC machines require a framebuffer console, unlike x86, which can use basic VGA.

Well I tired

Code:
apple video=ofonly

I guess I will try nvidiafb, radeonfb, rivafb, atyfb and aty128 tonight and see if that works. I figured the "most certain" to work would do it, heh.

Is this on the InstallCD? If so, you could also give the 2006.1 InstallCD a try, it might be a driver incompatibility with that model.

Yes, I haven't even installed anything yet, this is just booting the install CD. I will download 2006.1 and give that a shot. I am using 2007.0.

Ok so I burned 2006.1 and attempted all the video options again (nvidiafb, radeonfb, rivafb, atyfb, aty128 or ofonly) and the same issue appears.

Tired an interesting experiment tonight. I booted up the iBook with Fedora 7 minimal CD and I had the SAME problem, BUT, it took a second and continued to boot properly. Would this confirm it is a driver issue? Next, should I try an even more legacy version of Gentoo? Or more beta?

Yeah, that error does sound like a kernel issue. Which kernel is the Fedora CD using? You could also just install from the Fedora CD, the installation is pretty much the same, just the user environment while doing it is different. :)
