What needs to be done in order to get this going on PPC?? Spock's Devsite says it will run on other arches now because of v86d... I'm curious

That's the theory but for now as it says on the same web-site:
Quote:
v86d is the userspace helper that runs x86 code in an emulated environment. uvesafb will not work without v86d. v86d currently supports the x86 and amd64 (x86-64) architectures.
So if you want it to work on ppc we need to get v86d to work there. I have no idea of how
difficult that is.

I'm curious because I just upgraded kernels, and UVesaFB was in the Graphics section, even in the PPC kernel. It does no good though without the helper app.

Any thoughts/advice...

why use uvesafb ? i use the radeonfb with open firmware. not sure if that works with nvidia cards though. i thought the uvesa was an x86 thing only anyway.

I've upgraded my kernel recently on my Powerbook 12", 2.6.24-gentoo-r3 the framebuffer no longer works, where it was working fine with 2.6.20-gentoo-r5. I also noticed ufesafb but the impression I got from reading the docs was that it would only work with architecture that support BIOS not OpenFirmware?

I also noticed that there is no CONFIG_FB_SPLASH option in the .config file for 2.6.24-gentoo-r3!

Works fine with rivafb with nVidia NV34M on my Powerbook 12", at least until I upgraded the kernel.

It would appear that CONFIG_FB_SPLASH as been replaced with CONFIG_FB_CON_DECOR, the kernel documentation also states it requires the use of splashutils. I've been unable to compile splashutils :-(

Here is the error
Code:
/usr/lib/klibc/include/stdio.h:65: error: '__o' undeclared (first use in this function)
/usr/lib/klibc/include/stdio.h:65: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
