Hi,

I am trying to get my mplayer to play the following video:

http://www.nimh.nih.gov/videos/press/DeisserothDepressionCrossroads542K.mov

...but it won't play. This is what I get:

Code:
mabhobs@calvin ~ $ mplayer Downloads/DeisserothDepressionCrossroads542K.mov
MPlayer SVN-r24130 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
AltiVec not found
CPU: PowerPC

Playing Downloads/DeisserothDepressionCrossroads542K.mov.
ISO: File Type Major Brand: Original QuickTime
Quicktime/MOV file format detected.
MPEG-PS file format detected.
VIDEO:  MPEG1  352x240  (aspect 12)  29.970 fps  1152.0 kbps (144.0 kbyte/s)
==========================================================================
Opening video decoder: [mpegpes] MPEG 1/2 Video passthrough
VDec: vo config request - 352 x 240 (preferred colorspace: Mpeg PES)
Could not find matching colorspace - retrying with -vf scale...
Opening video filter: [scale]
The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec.
Try appending the scale filter to your filter list,
e.g. -vf spp, scale instead of -vf spp.
VDecoder init failed :(
Opening video decoder: [libmpeg2] MPEG 1/2 Video decoder libmpeg2-v0.4.0b

MPlayer interrupted by signal 4 in module: init_video_codec
- MPlayer crashed by an 'Illegal Instruction'.
It may be a bug in our new runtime CPU-detection code...
  Please read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
  disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

These are my mplayer use flags:

Code:

media-video/mplayer [R 1.0_rc1_p20070824] <target>
(-3dnow) (-3dnowext) X a52 aac -aalib alsa -altivec -amrnb -amrwb -arts bidi -bindist -bl -cddb -cdio -cdparanoia cpudetection -custom-cflags -dga directfb -doc dts -dv dvb dvd enca -encode -esd fbcon -ftp -ggi gif gtk iconv ipv6 (-ivtv) jack -joystick jpeg -libcaca -lirc live -livecd -lzo mad -md5sum (-mmx) (-mmxext) mp2 mp3 musepack nas openal opengl -oss png -pnm pvr quicktime radio (-rar) (-real) rtc -samba sdl -speex srt (-sse) (-sse2) (-ssse3) (-svga) -teletext -tga theora tivo truetype unicode -v4l -v4l2 vidix vorbis (-win32codecs) x264 xanim -xinerama xv xvid (-xvmc) -zoran video_cards: (-i810) -mga (-nvidia) -s3virge -tdfx (-vesa)

I am using an ibook 2.2 with a 500 Mhz processor.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

Of course, it IS the binary version......... I have had success in the past by enabling the win32codecs USE flag, and choosing those codecs in the preferences, especially for things like .mov files....

You realize that you are posting on the ppc forum and not amd64?
We don't have win32codecs here and no way of getting them.
