Hi, I recently tried to boot ppc64 minimal on my iMac G5 to try and install gentoo. I get to the yaboot prompt, hit Enter, get a few messages across the screen, and then the computer freezes at a black screen. Shortly after this, the fans start at full speed. I end up having to hold the power button down to shut the machine down. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you solve it?

Matt

you can try to add the 'video=ofonly' option to the kernel.

to do so, do this:

at the yaboot promt hit tab to list the available kernels. There should be one marked with an asterik ('*'). This is the default kernel that is loaded when you press enter. Now enter that name, append "video=ofonly" and press enter to load the kernel.

example (where linux is an example name):
Code:
0 > linux video=ofonly
