I downloaded the PS3 livecd for a friend but the image size is 724 MB. So how am I supposed to burn it? All of my cd-r's are only 703 MB. Is there a particular brand of cd this will fit on or can I remaster the disc myself to bring the size down, like Knoppix?

Thanks!

This is not a problem to worry so much about. I use the Gentoo / Linux LiveCD available at ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.gentoo.org/experimental/ppc64/livecd/livecd-ps3-xfce4-20071212-r1.iso too large to be burnt on a CDROM, in combination with a USB stick as a FAT Read / Write filesystem ... I just burned the ISO disk image on a DVD support. I wouldn't be shocked if the LiveCD became a LiveDVD or better a Live Blu-Ray 8)

Did you try to overburn the disc? Some CD-R's allow an additional 30-40MB.

That's the cd image I got also, although from a different mirror.

I tried to burn it on a DVD but Nero (on my xp machine) told me I couldn't do it. I wouldn't mind using a dvd if someone can tell me how (K3B?). A dvd would make more sense anyway, since you know all the ps3's can read them. Live blu-ray would be cool in a few years but wayyyyy to expensive for now.

I thought about overburning but nero also has that big warning about damaging your burner blah blah blah. Besides, I didn't think I could get that much extra space by overburning.

Of course ... Excuse me ! I forgot to say I burned the LiveCD ISO disk image on a DVD support, with K3B on my Linux Vaio laptop. It is definitely appropriate :)

I don't know much about Nero ... Not the best tool for that, I'm afraid

Sorry folks, the livecd is actually intended to be a LiveDVD. I'll make sure the iso naming reflects this moving forward.

As an aside, do people object to using DVDs? I tried to get under the CD size limit but I was unable to. If this is important, I will likely need to eliminate the office applications as these are not only large but also drag in KDE dependencies.

Thoughts?

Moved from Gentoo on Alternative Architectures to Gentoo on PPC.

I got it figured out. For some reason it defaulted to a cd, but I just changed the media type to dvd

I think a full dvd is a great idea. Single layer dvd's are pretty cheap, and there would be room for a full blown KDE desktop!

Great work on the LiveCD Ranger. Personally though, I'd loose the office applications and focus more on media center like applications. This LiveCD idea is great, especially for people who want to have a place to download and play video content without hooking up a traditional media center. Just my 2 cents :)
