What are the recommended preemption and tick frequency settings for an iBook G3? I'm currently at 1000 Hz with full preemption. The system is very sluggish (compared to my Core 2 ThinkPad, which I guess should be expected).

Is there anyway to tweak this PPC kernel to make it snappier? I'm experiencing problems in the following areas:

1. GTK+ widgets take a long time to redraw.
2. Writing text to Xfce's terminal takes a relatively long amount of time (Courier New, no antialiasing).

Other than that, the machine's good to go.

You might want to set the ticks lower, high frequency timers mean more kernel overhead. That said, it sounds like your issues are more with the video card driver instead of the system itself. Are you sure you're using the correct video driver and not the generic framebuffer driver?
