I'm in a bit of a pickle. I have Gentoo running just fine on my iBook but my installCD is nicked. I need to do a couple of chores with the CD and was hoping to get a CD from the Gentoo store but only the 2006.0 is available. No big deal really but it's also the LiveCD and I'd much rather use the Minimal Install CD. I looked around the websites that sell Linux CD's but none of these have this version. So I ask where can I get it?

Alternately, I know how to dd an ISO to a USB flash drive, but have no idea how to boot it.

Any Ideas?

System Rescue CD is Gentoo based, boots to only a console by default, and has instructions for booting from a usb drive. However, the PowerPC version is out of date and marked as unstable, so I don't know if it will work.

To boot a USB disk you'd need to either set it in BIOs [as the primary boot device, or anything before the hard drive really], or tell whatever your boot menu is [I've never touched a Mac, so I can't help you with that-- nor do I know if you've already installed GRUB on it] to boot from /dev/whateveryourdiskis.

There is an Ubuntu tutorial that covers booting from a USB memory stick. It should work with Gentoo:

My understanding is that you cannot do this with GRUB since the USB drivers get loaded too far into the boot process.

GRUB doesn't work on PPC.

Appreciate all the help guys, Sodki. I got a chance to try this out this last weekend but  unfortunately it looks like some open firmwares will not recognize usb disks. :( :( :(

Anyways, I researched this a bit, so I jotted it down. Please feel free to correct what is needed.
