Hi there,
I am trying to shake up the infraport of an early TiBook (500Mhz, ATI 8Mb 2x AGP modell).

I have compiled all the Networking>IrDa modules. I can modprobe the modules, but only ircomm_tty creates nodes in /dev.

I can not irattach any port (I have tried ttySx and ircommtty0). findchip (gfindchip in my case) recognizes no chip.
I have no results with scanning the ports. (irattach /dev/xxx -s)
I am trying to find a Nokia 3109c mobile, but I can not even reach the hardware of my PBook.

1. Has anyone managed infraport on this hw? (If not, I discontinue my efforts.)
2. If yes - HOW? :)))))

titanium ... umm what ati have you got ? radeon ? ati128 ?
in both cases, any issues with the related framebuffer (radeonfb, aty128fb) ?
in case you have radeonfb, any "plasma effect" issue randomly painted on your LCD ?

regards

p.s.
about IRDA, I'am considering to use a pcmcia to uart RS232 + RS232 to IRDA. I tested and it works great without any issues of this not supported (i assume they are not) apple irda devices

:)
The ati question probably belongs to https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-648980.html. The ati card is an 8MB 2xAGP card, early Tibook.

Regarding infrared:
U mean that irda on this TiBook is not supported and I should use an other mean to make it sing?

Actually I am struggling to connect my nokia garbage to my TiBook via gnokii or gammu, but through usb I have not been able to manage it.

your ati card is an ATI Rage 128 Mobility M3 LF (AGP), so the kernel framebuffer is aty128fb

i suppose IRDA is not supported 'cause i have IRDA working on wallstreet but i have any IRDA working on lombard and pismo (the last aluminium has no IRDA device on board)

about ppc powerbook/videocard:
wallstreet/ati-mach64, lombard/ati-mach64, pismo (G3)/ati-r128, your titanium (G4/ati-r128) ...???/??? ... aluminium/ati-radeon-9600-m10

(sorted first to the last one)

I think that model has the IR show up as a serial port once you've compiled in support for Mac Serial. Try setting up serial like this: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#modem and see if it's detected on boot.

<*> PowerMac z85c30 ESCC support (CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG)

it has been compiled as module: it conflicts with my pcmcia uart, and if i remove the pcmcia it simply doesn't work on powerbook pismo and on powerbook lombard. On the wallstreet powerbook i had success (and it is the only machine i had success about irda). I compiled PowerMac z85c30 as module then i used /bin/setserial to configure the irda port: my palm m105 has an IrDA port, too, the both machines (wallstreet and palm m105) can comunicate and they are happy each others.

no success on lombard and pismo

Sorry if I didn't make that clear. My instruction was meant for salmonix, as far as I know, the IR on the 500MHz TiBook is available after setting up serial. I don't know much about the serial/IR support of those older models.

no problema, just reporting: how do you set the mac-serial port ?

googling i found this http://homepage.mac.com/pauljlucas/personal/powerbook/irda.html#modem

kernel 2.2.x ... too much old, but it says IrDA was working on pismo, so it is HOPE : P

modifying setserial, and adding the right settings to /etc/serial.con, pmac_zilog is now working on the pismo powerbook

tested on 2 pismo machines chatting on the IrDA channel: both machines emerged with minicom terminal attached to /dev/ttyS1 with the setup of 9600bps
