Hi, I've installed on a G3 imac and I've been gradually trying to get gnome to run. I'm having issues getting gstreamer to compile and now when I run --update --deep --world I have problems getting ncurses to install, I think there must be some thing wrong with my make.conf so here it is:
Code:

# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically
# built this stage.
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example.
CFLAGS="-O3 -pipe -mcpu=G3 -fno-strict-aliasing"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
# This should not be changed unless you know exactly what you are doing.  You
# should probably be using a different stage, instead.
CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
USE="-qt3 -qt4 -arts -kde X dbus gtk gnome hal"
INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.virginmedia.com/"

I think I must be missing something top do with these USE flags but I'm v new at this so I'm not sure what.
Thanks

your cflags change to:
Code:
CFLAGS="-mcpu=750 -O2 -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing"

Unfortuantly that gives exactly the same result:
Code:

AWK=gawk sh /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/MKkey_defs.sh /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/Caps >>curses.h
sh -c 'if test "chtype" = "cchar_t" ; then cat /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/curses.wide >>curses.h ; fi'
cat /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/curses.tail >>curses.h
sh /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/MKhashsize.sh /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/Caps >hashsize.h
/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/MKhashsize.sh: line 38: unexpected EOF while looking for matching ``'
/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/ncurses-5.6/include/MKhashsize.sh: line 43: syntax error: unexpected end of file
make[1]: *** [hashsize.h] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2/work/narrowc/include'
make: *** [sources] Error 2

then
Code:

 * Messages for package sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2:

 *
 * ERROR: sys-libs/ncurses-5.6-r2 failed.
 * Call stack:
 *               ebuild.sh, line   49:  Called src_compile
 *             environment, line 2337:  Called do_compile
 *             environment, line  630:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *       emake -j1 sources || die "make sources failed";
 *  The die message:
 *   make sources failed

Looks like your version of bash could be causing this. http://autoverse.net/index.php?id=33
