Hello,

I am planning to install Linux on a Powermac G5 that I picked up (first generation, 1.6 GHz with 512 MB RAM).

I took a quick look at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc64.xml?part=1&chap=2 and noticed that there are supposedly less applications that work in 64-bit userland.

Does anyone know if there is a list of applications that work in 64-bit userland?

Thanks

http://packages.gentoo.org/ is useful for seeing if a package is marked for an architecture (ppc64 in this case), but many popular packages are supported on ppc64. Is there something you're looking for?

a recent gentoo monthly newsletter has had a fancy overview of that:

http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gmn/20080218-newsletter.xml#doc_chap6

as you can see there are many packages already marked for ppc64. as most packages don't need to be ported (code rewritten), but only need the keyword the chances that you get your favorite package keyworded are good.
