Hi all,

I am amazed ReiserFS support is not compiled in the PS3 kernel.
I am even more amazed that my compilation failed with a "no more space in disk" error.
It seems the disk is about 99Mgs and guess what, the kernel is occupying also 55Mgs.

A kernel with 55Mgs (kernel + initrd + system.map) ?!? Why?
And how do I compile a new kernel is the previous one is taking so much space? I certaintly don't want to delete it given it is good if the current kernel has some kind of defect, right?

Any suggestions?

For one thing, the "kernel" does not take 55M, the kernel "source" can take that much space. That said, if you properly trim your .config to compile only those parts of the code that reference your hardware, you should be fine. You should be able to go to the source directory, do a make menuconfig and include the reiser support that way.

The PS3 kernel is built by default with its debugging symbols by default. Just strip the kernel and it will be around 7MB or so.

The reason reiserfs is not built in by default it because kboot does not support reading anything from reiserfs by default. There are workarounds like creating a /boot ext3 partition and sticking your kernels and kboot.conf in there. Lots of ways to skin the cat on this one.

Thanks! I will do that!
