Something like two days ago (11/04) einit disappeared from layman. Or rather, it still shows up in the listing, but fails to fetch because einit.org is not there. Having tried on various browsers at various locations I don't believe there can be a dns or cache problem at my end...
Today I tried einit.org and wound up at initng.org???
Was this a coup... a revolution??
Please can we have einit back

Vindictive ex-developer who owned the einit.org domain.

The overlay can be accessed through the site which was always behind einit.org: git://git.jyujin.de/einit/portage-overlay.git

And the website is currently http://einit.jyujin.de/

Cheers for that explanation - I hadn't realised things like that happened ( how naive...)
The initng team should be ashamed of themselves.

The initng people have nothing to do with it.

This is entirely internal to eINIT.

Oh sorry... I assumed from the fact that the address now leads to the initng website and your mention of an ex developer that they were at least complicit. Too many assumptions, apologies all round.
Anyway, do you know if thereś a way to modify layman by hand, or fetch the repository in some other way, as it still points to the einit.org repository?

Pretty easy:
1. Change your /etc/layman/layman.cfg to something like this:
Code:
overlays  : http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/layman-global.txt
            file:///var/portage/layman/local.xml

(You can put the file wherever you want, that's just the place I put it, because I have all overlays and the portage tree and everything there)

2. Create the file and add this:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<layman>
   <overlay
      type="git"
      src="git://git.jyujin.de/einit/portage-overlay.git"
      contact="mdeininger@jyujin.de"
      name="einit">
      <link>http://einit.jyujin.de</link>
      <description>Yet another new INIT-system. This overlay maintains the more "experimental" ebuilds for this.</description>
   </overlay>
</layman>

This will overwrite the entry in the global layman list.
This way, you can also use other overlays not on the layman list, without the trouble of manual updating

well the easiest way is to do this:

Code:
mkdir /usr/local/portage
cd /usr/local/portage
git clone git://git.jyujin.de/einit/portage-overlay.git
echo PORTAGE_OVERLAY=\"\${PORTAGE_OVERLAY} /usr/local/portage/portage-overlay\">>/etc/make.conf

i.e. fetch the overlay and stuff it into make.conf manually. you'd have to remove that line the echo adds once we get layman back to work :). (or rather opfer does, i sent him a mail yesterday).

oh and, i'd severely doubt ismaell would even contemplate doing this, that one time i semi-talked to him he sounded like a very nice and upright person :D.

EDIT: Thargor be fast yarr :), I think his solution beats mine ;).
