emerging festival is surprising me with these 2 beautiful error message

festival 1.96 "hts_engine required, but not compiled in this installation"
festival 1.95 "SIOD ERROR: damaged env : #<UNKNOWN 12 0x3019fe18>"

festival 1.96: "hts_engine required, but not compiled in this installation"

how to emerge with this support ?
the previous (<<1.95 version are working, unfortunately gentoo's portage is reporting only the 1.96 ebuild ... see /usr/portage/app-accessibility/festival ...)

i need for "text2wave" capability

Hi Peter

It looks like you've found the bug in the program. Are you running
latest festival version? If no, please upgrade.

Also, please put (set_backtrace t) command somewhere in the scripts
executed before the crash. That will enable more precise backtrace of
functions calls that cause crash and help in solving this problem. Like
his
$FESTIVALDIR/bin/festival -b festvox/build_clunits.scm
'(begin (set_backtrace t) (build_clunits"etc/uniphone.data"))'

It might be a bug caused by some unusual data values. Probably you can
find wrong recording and provide the data that leads to crash. Sometimes
long delays or extreme cases aren't tested.

(that is not my case, but i have the same error message)

alternative ?

quoting from /usr/bin/speechd

# * A speech synthesis package.
# Support is currently provided for Festival, rsynth, and IBM ViaVoice TTS.
# - Festival: http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival/
# - rsynth: ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/linux/sunsite/apps/sound/speech/
# - ViaVoice: http://www-3.ibm.com/software/speech/dev/ttssdk_linux.html

rsynth, ViaVoice: too old URL => information need to be updated to 2008 !!!
