I don't know why it's down, but I put up a snapshot (June 22th) of the portage overlay.

kdesvn-portage.2008-06-22.tar.bz2

Maybe someone will find that useful until the site comes back up.

Can someone please post the relevant section from the overlays.xml?

How? There's no 4.0.83 ebuild in the overlay, only the 9999 one... :(

try

Code:
layman -d kdesvn-portage; layman -a kdesvn-portage

Sorry about that.
Code:
  <overlay contact="bugs@dev.gentooexperimental.org" name="kdesvn-portage" src="git://dev.gentooexperimental.org/kde-overlay.git" status="unofficial" type="git">

    <link>

      http://dev.gentooexperimental.org

    </link>
    <description>

      This overlay provides KDE4 live ebuilds and eclasses for portage. Note that it's experimental.

    </description>
  </overlay>

(I don't know why there's so many empty lines)

I don't think that's very smart considering the server is down :wink:

And it wouldn't have changed anything as explained by IamtheOne a few posts after: 5136819

---

@everyone: unofficial info about current status (so CMIIAW)

From what I've read on the IRC channel (up to july 2-nd):

  • server sufferd hardware brake down;
  • they're waiting for replacement parts to arrive before rebuilding server + repo;
  • meanwhile u can manually install this snapshot (20080627) of the repo, insert the code mentioned here and add the right path in the PORTDIR_OVERLAY section in <layman_root_dir>/make.conf to make layman become aware of it;
  • be patient d@mn1t :wink:
---

Note to self: work on patients

Cause I cannot be patient ;), I tried it with the snapshot.

Uncompressed the snapshot into the layman folder, edited the overlays.xml and copied the content of packages.keywords and packages.unmask to /etc/portage.

eix shows the content of the overlay but emerge doesn't recognize anything.

E.g. if I try to emerge phonon:

Code:

Calculating dependencies /
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "media-sound/phonon".

Is it the heat or me? Forget I something?

It's not you, but the heat is taking it's toll here ;)

I forgot to mention that you should also add right path "/<your_path>/layman/kde-overlay" to the PORTDIR_OVERLAY section in the "make.conf" file in the layman root dir.

Man is it warm here :oops:

@all

Code:
layman -a kdesvn-portage

:D :D :D :D :D :D

@ckx3009
Remove everything and try the official overlay and check if your problem still persists.

Quote:
/usr/kde/svn/bin/konqueror -v
Qt: 4.4.0
KDE: 4.00.84 (KDE 4.0.84 (KDE 4.1 >= 20080625)
Konqueror: 4.00.84 (KDE 4.0.84 (KDE 4.1 >= 20080625)

you need to unmask all of those packages needed for it:

optimally install the kde-meta version

also install eix & dep you can see if there are additional versions of packages:
Code:

emerge eix udept

then, for example:

Code:
dep -e konqueror

Hi! Does anybody know what package I have to install to get a printer configuration panel in 'System Settings'? And how do I get that spiffy desktop search thing (strigi) to work?

thanks for the help kernelOfTruth but now portage doesn't know the 9999 ebuild's exist, it still wants to emerge the 4.0.5 version.

ok, try
Code:
emerge =kde-meta-9999 -pv

I emerged it with
Code:
emerge =kde-meta-9999

so if that doesn't work you might need to unmask a few more packages / alter a few files ...

Due to an idiosyncratic[1] fatal problem with beta2, I'm now working on using the SVN (-9999) overlay. Now I have what I think is probably a
dumb question about "emerge".

Is there a simple way to get emerge to re-build all of the packages in a kde*-meta-9999 package? Since the -9999 ebuilds are updating from SVN, I'd like to regularly update, but it looks almost like the only way to get all of the packages related to a *-meta package to rebuild is a comlete unmerge and re-emerge.

Please tell me there's an easier way!

[1] meaning I'm guessing it's not happening to most people - the panel was crashing and restarting every minute or two, and after doing so 3-5 times, it would take the rest of KDE with it, leaving me a blank unresponsive screen. If I can get knotify in the SVN version to stop suddenly popping up a continuous stream of errors it looks like SVN will work for me...

Epicanis,
a little shell magic should do the trick. A script to do the task you described might run along the lines of this:
Code:
find /usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage  -type d -maxdepth 2 -mindepth 2 | grep -o '[^/]*\/[^/]*$ | while read pkg do
if [[ -d "/var/db/pkg/${pkg}-9999" ]]; then
emerge -1 =${pkg}-9999
fi
done

Use this script at your own danger. I shall not be held responsible if it melts your face off your skull.

Here is another way.

Code:
equery list kde-base/ | grep 9999 | xargs -n1 -i echo ={} | xargs emerge -v

Just a note of congrats on this new kdesvn portage overlay. Great job! :D Works very well.
Got a nice KDE 4.00.85 (KDE 4.0.85 (KDE 4.1 >= 20080703)) up and running great in record time, with no real problems. 8)
I was using the original portage overlay before we had to go to Paludis, and consequently have been using Plaudis for many weeks now. When I saw this new version of portage was out (2.2), with a reworked kdesvn split ebuild overlay, I couldn't resist installing it on another drive.

I certainly wasn't disappointed! :D

BTW, if it sometimes seems like the server is down, gimpel on the genkdesvn overlay thread tipped us off to put the line:
Code:
131.174.31.25 anonsvn.kde.org
in /etc/hosts. Worked like a charm- guess that's a very reliable mirror?

EDIT: Hmmmm. On reboot today, all I can get is a black screen and a panel that won't load anything, and a hard lock-up. Guess I'll try removing .kdesvn and rebooting. :? This is surprising, as everything was functional last night. 8O

Ahhhh. That worked- back to normal. :)

Hm, I can't update to 4.0.85...

Code:
[blocks B     ] kde-base/plasma:kde-4.1 (is blocking kde-base/plasma-apps-4.0.85, kde-base/plasma-workspace-4.0.85)

 * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
 * installed at the same time on the same system.

If I try to unmerge plasma:kde-4.1 to solve the block it complains:

Code:
# emerge -C plasma:kde-4.1
Not unmerging package kde-base/plasma-4.0.83 as it is
still referenced by the following package sets:
    kdebase-meta

Is there some simple way to solve this without unmerging the whole set?

@Bloodsurfer

I had something like that this morning on the dual core laptop but I used the update script from here:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-546828-highlight-.html

This will let me build as much as possible skipping over the blocked packages.

I believe there were 260 packages needed to update and when I left it was on 7 or 8. Hopefully when I get home all will be built. I am running sys-devel/icecream and have the main dual core desktop running so that is 4 build cores.
