I have the same problem with libkipi and furthermore the follwing with libkcompactdisc:

I've had this problem for a few days. Any ideas?
I'm doing a fresh install of kde-svn with the portage layman overlay, and just got this same exact problem with r833580. Tried again with no LDFLAGS, rebuilding all plasma related stuff- no luck. Thing is, It prevents installing startkde, so I'm stuck at kdebase. :?

I'm on ~x86, with gcc-4.3.1, which works fine on Arch (using official kde kdesvn-build tool) and Gentoo with paludis, at least up to now.

I'll now start a complete kde-svn update on my paludis box, and see if it fails there too.

BTW, with media-sound/phonon, I had to disable the gstreamer USE flag. Should this be disabled globally?

Could someone with a good working svn install please post or link their /etc/portage/use flags settings file? It would really help in figuring this stuff out, like which are required and which need to be disabled on which packages. The docs aren't very helpful in this regard.

I have just the same problem with it as well as dolphin and with a little search on google I've made some modifications to the header files and recompiled a few stuff but still the exact problem with the missing -lplasma remains... and only on krunner... I managed to emerge everything else with emerge --skipfirst krunner refuses to continue....

anyway if anyone is interested or having problems emerging dolphin here is the patch to make it compile succesfully

PS: This is my first post on the gentoo forums. I was a casual reader here when having problems and was helpful indeed... the gentoo community really rocks :-)

MemphisX,
Thanks for the feedback, and welcome to the forum- it is great! It's kept all my ~x86 systems going for years! :)

On the krunner problem, I can report it compiled fine on my Gentoo paludis box- revision 833698. With paludis, they use kbuilds, not regular ebuilds, so maybe that has something to do with it. That, or either they just fixed it with the newer revision. I'll try again on my portage box later tonight. I'm thinking maybe my USE flags on qt and kde aren't set correctly, but don't really know what's needed on that front

Anyone else with any info on this? :)

EDIT: BTW- how did you get startkde to compile- it always pulls in krunner first, and krunner fails. Hmmm... Forgot to try --nodeps on startkde so I can at least boot into kde. Maybe that will work, but somehow I doubt it.

Hmmmm. Since startkde is a script (AFAIK), anyone know if I could just copy it over from my current Paludis box, which I just finished up OK. On the portage ebuild version box, it's essentially the same current kde-svn.

As I mentioned above, from my Paludis box I copied over /usr/kde/svn/bin/startkde to the same location in my kde-svn portage box, and also copied over the /usr/share/xsessions/kde-svn.desktop file in the same manner. Kde-svn was an option in gdm, and I booted into my fresh portage kde-svn installation. :) So, seems it turns out you can get the startkde function to work without actually installing the package itself, as long as you can copy those two working files from another installation (or simply create the kde.desktop file yourself). 8O

All of what I installed (all the deps, kdebase-meta, and kdeartwork-meta, plus a few individual packages) seems to work normally, but of course I have no krunner functions.

Oh well, better than not being able to boot into kde-svn at all. :D Now to fix it up and add more packages.

A brief question:
Firefox -bin 3 or Dillo launch, but if I try and use them, they immediately lock the mouse and keyboard, and I have to hard reset the computer to escape.

Do I need the gtk-engines in the kdesvn-portage overlay installed? Is that the problem?

I never ran into this before on the old kde-svn portage overlay, or subsequently after we had to go to Paludis for a while.
Now suddenly on this new portage overlay version.... :?

BTW, my old favorite web browser Konqueror is suddenly functional again as a browser, so the above (at least for me) is now a moot point. :D

I've managed to compile kipi-plugins-20080714. In the ebuild I changed the line:

Code:
sed -e '/acquireimages/ s:^:#DONOTCOMPILE :' -i "${S}"/${PN}/CMakeLists.txt \

to:
Code:
sed -e '/acquireimages/ s:^:#DONOTCOMPILE :' -i "${S}"/CMakeLists.txt \

I also have problems with krunner-9999 and "ld -lplasma not found". I tried some hacks and couldn't figure out anything. If anyone gets it to install please post what you did and/or the svn version number.

Same kind of thing except with "-lkdepim" just happened trying to install kmail, on package 3 of 9. :?

I'm in the process of re-emerging everything needed to run kde-svn on my system with emerge -e kde-meta.... and 150 packages left to re-emerge
just in case there was something wrong on my system...

wrc1944 wrote:
BTW- how did you get startkde to compile- it always pulls in krunner first, and krunner fails. Hmmm... Forgot to try --nodeps on startkde so I can at least boot into kde. Maybe that will work, but somehow I doubt it.

Well every time portage was failing to emerge a specific package of kde I run "emerge --skipfirst" and it was going on with the rest of the packages... thats how I got to compile startkde in the end I just emerged again kde-meta and all went smooth except krunner and kontact-specialdates...

Most of the failing packages caused by missing dependancies... especially with kdepimlibs and akonadi... so it wouldnt hurt to try emerge those first if you have any problems on various packages not being able to built...

Code:

localhost ~ # emerge kde-meta
 * Overlay eclass overrides eclass from PORTDIR:
 *
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/gimpel/eclass/wxwidgets.eclass'
 *
 * It is best to avoid overridding eclasses from PORTDIR because it will
 * trigger invalidation of cached ebuild metadata that is distributed with
 * the portage tree. If you must override eclasses from PORTDIR then you
 * are advised to run `emerge --regen` after each time that you run `emerge
 * --sync`. Set PORTAGE_ECLASS_WARNING_ENABLE="0" in /etc/make.conf if you
 * would like to disable this warning.
Calculating dependencies... done!

As it turns out, since I'm using the open source radeon driver I had to switch my X AccelMethod from XAA to EXA in order for the desktop to work in KDE 4.0.98. As an added bonus, desktop effects work now! Woohoo! :D
Code:
# Stick this line into your driver section of xorg.conf
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"

Now if Ardour works, I can finally say goodbye to 3.5... And I think I may still wait until 4.2 to switch my wife over. ;)

Update: On the ongoing krunner problem: I just removed all contents in svn-src KDE, and did a complete rebuild. All 77 "9999" packages compiled OK. Then I tried krunner again, and got same error. I've looked in trunk, and cannot find a "saverdesktop" file, but maybe I missed it. The problem seems to be either something called lplasma is missing, or for some unknown reason it's there, but not being found.
Code:
 [100%] Building CXX object krunner/lock/plasma/containment/CMakeFiles/plasma_containment_saverdesktop.dir/plasma_containment_saverdesktop_automoc.o

Could this type problem be related to gcc-4.3.1?

It's not.

I managed to get it compile the other day, but I'm afraid I've cleared out the files so I can't give you a patch. However, I might be able to point you int the right direction. One way to fix this is if you unpack and compile it manually using
Code:
ebuild krunner-9999.ebuild compile

You can then grep through the the build directory, usually /var/tmp/portage/kde-base/krunner-9999/work/krunner_build, and look for "\-plasma". There are other files that have the necessary library paths included, -L/usr/kde/svn/lib64 -L/lib64 and so on. Copy these and add them to relink.txt in the directory that you're getting the error message from (/var/tmp/portage/kde-base/krunner-9999/work/krunner_build/krunner/lock/plasma/containment/CMakeFiles/plasma_containment_saverdesktop.dir/)

Finish up with a
Code:
ebuild krunner-9999.ebuild merge
and you should be all set to go. Again, sorry if I'm not detailed enough or if I missed something, it's been a whole 5 days ;)

Another, better, way to possibly fix this by editing CMakeLists.txt, but this was a lot quicker for me.

Good luck!

No one use yakuake?, yakuake-4.0.85 gives me strange error

try the svn-builds - they work great for me

if you don't want to switch, try the svn-build for yakuake only

good luck :)

theblackpeter,
Thanks much for the info. :) I've done this sort of stuff before, so I'm not completely out of my depth, but I can't figure this one out. There seems to be no "plasma" item in my /var/tmp/portage/kde-base/krunner-9999/work/krunner_build,
My /var/tmp/portage/kde-base/krunner-9999/work/krunner_build/krunner/lock/plasma/containment/CMakeFiles/plasma_containment_saverdesktop.dir/) looks like this. Is that last directory incorrect? I can't seem to find, or even know what to append from the first location to the 2nd location's relink.txt file. I understand the concept OK- just don't know what PATH needs to be there so krunner can find lplasma..
Code:
/usr/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++  -fPIC -O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-ident -frename-registers -ftree-vectorize  -Wnon-virtual-dtor -Wno-long-long -ansi -Wundef -Wcast-align -Wchar-subscripts -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -Wformat-security -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new -fno-common -Woverloaded-virtual -fno-threadsafe-statics -fvisibility=hidden -fvisibility-inlines-hidden -O2 -DNDEBUG -DQT_NO_DEBUG -Wl,--enable-new-dtags -Wl,--fatal-warnings -Wl,--no-undefined -lc -Wl,-O1 -shared -Wl,-soname,plasma_containment_saverdesktop.so -o CMakeFiles/CMakeRelink.dir/plasma_containment_saverdesktop.so "CMakeFiles/plasma_containment_saverdesktop.dir/plasma_containment_saverdesktop_automoc.o" "CMakeFiles/plasma_containment_saverdesktop.dir/desktop.o" -lplasma -Wl,-rpath,/usr/kde/svn/lib
Should I just add more (the correct) path(s) here, and if so, what's the correct syntax?

Or, is /usr/kde/svn/lib wrong, and a simple edit of that one path all that's needed?

Hi folks,

i managed to get krunner working again, inspired by "theblackpeter".

1. Run the following code, it will throw an error:
Code:
 ebuild /usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage/kde-base/krunner/krunner-9999.ebuild compile

2. Change "/var/tmp/portage/kde-base/krunner-9999/work/krunner/krunner/lock/plasma/containment/CMakeLists.txt" to:
Code:
set(desktop_SRCS
    desktop.cpp)

set(LINK_DIRECTORIES
${ROOT_LIBRARY_DIR}
/usr/kde/svn/lib64
/usr/kde/svn/lib32
/usr/lib/qt4
)

 link_directories( ${LINK_DIRECTORIES})

kde4_add_plugin(plasma_containment_saverdesktop ${desktop_SRCS})
target_link_libraries(plasma_containment_saverdesktop plasma kdecore QtCore QtGui)

install(TARGETS plasma_containment_saverdesktop DESTINATION ${PLUGIN_INSTALL_DIR})
install(FILES plasma-containment-saverdesktop.desktop DESTINATION ${SERVICES_INSTALL_DIR})

3. Run the following code:
Code:
ebuild /usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage/kde-base/krunner/krunner-9999.ebuild compile
ebuild /usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage/kde-base/krunner/krunner-9999.ebuild merge

4. You need to start krunner(as normal user) for the changes to take effect
Code:
 krunner &

Enjoy KDE

*Edit* Now the fix works also for 32bit systems

theiq,
I take it you are running 64 bit. 32 bit x86 users should just omit the "64" and use :
Code:
set(LINK_DIRECTORIES
${ROOT_LIBRARY_DIR}
/usr/kde/svn/lib
/lib
/usr/lib/qt4
Correct? If this works for me, you and theblackpeter have my thanks and admiration! :)

Much better solution. I was just looking into fixing the CMakeLists.txt file rather then messing around with the linker files. You should send a patch/message to the kdesvn-portage people if you haven't yet.

Thanks for sharing :)
