Hi,
I compiled kdelibs successfully several times in the last weeks but today it fails with this:

Code:
Generating moc_itemsmodel.cpp

Try kde-base/phonon-kde-9999 (kde-svn) instead. Not sure if that's the replacement, I just stumbled over it doing an equery list -o phonon.

I'm on kde-4.1.65 now and quite happy with it. :)

It worked, I've sound working again... ;)

There is still the problem with kdeadmin-strigi-plugins : I tried to compile it "manually", but the bug seems not to be "ebuild related"... when I do a cmake/make/make install, I get that :

Code:

make: *** No rule to make target `install'.  Stop.

Running make, returns NULL, so I guess it compiles nothing...

I have installed kde 4.1.1, aftrer that, I updated xorg-server to 1.5 (from 1.3).
Then, my KDE 4.1.1 don't start.
After login screen (KDM 4.1.1) I can see appearing icons under loading screen, and graphics restart and again I am in login screen (KDM).
I updated xorg-x11 up to 7.4 (from 7.2) but without success on loading KDE 4.1.1.
I changed many times nvidia-drivers between stable and unstable drivers... without success.

I don't know where to find logs and source of problem.

what is the supported way of setting up sound in kde 4.1? I can't hear anything from kscd so should I add alsa flag for kdelibs or install phonon (which one?)

another thing is - what should I do to autostart dvds in smplayer and audiocds in kscd? I have hald started and dvds do mount but the only option in that plasma applet is to open in dolphin, whereas audiocd don't autodo anything

kde needs phonon needs alsa, at least this is the default. Just as you should have enabled your alsa flag anyway. ;)

I like to have as little flags enabled as possible. anyway: which phonon? I already have installed media-sound/phonon-4.2 (with kde4.1, weird?) and it's obviusly not working and it doesn't have alsa flag (or xine). kdelibs package has alsa flag but shouldn't it rely on phonon to make sounds?

phonon itself needs a backend, which is xine per default, so you should enable that use flag too. that should pull in kde-base/phonon-xine-4.1.

media-sound/phonon as it's not residing in kde-base/ does not follow the KDE4 release/numbering scheme, 4.2 is correct.

so maybe I've got wrong phonon because mine doesn't have xine flag:

Code:
server ~ # emerge media-sound/phonon -vpt

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] media-sound/phonon-4.2.0  USE="-debug -gstreamer" 0 kB [1]

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
Portage tree and overlays:
 [0] /usr/portage
 [1] /usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage

Have you kdesvn-portage guys thought about giving a helping hand to KDE Gentoo team and help them maintain kde-testing overlay?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I've heard KDE4.1.1 in kde-testing overlay is currently being ported from your overlay (http://skrypuch.com/kde4/) (as it is the portage compatible and mature one). What I see is the things are a bit messy, developers have hands full of work, there are three overlays, two threads on the forum covering them (I've already contacted forum moderators and proposed some clarification - https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-707764.html) and we still don't have KDE4.1 in portage. Are you in touch with Gentoo KDE maintainers? Or maybe you wish me to contact them as well and proposed some kind of wider cooperation with you if it's not the case so far?

regards
MM

I updated xorg-x11 up to 7.4 (from 7.2) but without success on loading KDE 4.1.1.
I changed many times nvidia-drivers between stable and unstable drivers... without success.

Same happen to me if i have the option "Backstorage" (or something similar, cant remember) "true" in xorg.conf

Check it.

Edit: I meant
Code:
Option "BackingStore" "1"
in your xorg.conf, comment it.

not exactly the same,

for me it fails around 53% (lancelot),

give them some time and it should compile again ...

Am I the only one missing the ebuilds for Kopete 4.1.1 and Amarok 1.90? What gives, they were there before and they worked fine as far as I know??

Edit: GIT is corrupted for me, I removed the overlay and re-added it and voila, all ebuilds are back - YAY

Thanks again for providing 'stable' snapshots of the 4.2 branch! :) 4.1.66 is a noteable improvement over 4.1.65.

EDIT: Another BIG THX for ktorrent, kmplayer, k3b, amarok, krusader @4.2 branch! I love this overlay. :D

EDIT #2: ktorrent and kmplayer ebuilds need fixing (NEED_KDE="4.2.0" instead of 4.0.0 and 4.1.0). ;)

EDIT #3: ok, none of them work. :(

EDIT #4: Also qt-test-4.4.2 fails short after begin:
Code:

Ok, it has been removed again and masked in Portage.

PostPosted: Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:37 am    Post subject: phonon doesn't find phonon-xine ?! Reply with quote

Hey guys!

Yesterday I unmerged KDE-4.1.1 and installed 4.1.66. No problems while installing so far! :)
But after making my settings in System Settings I found a problem. (ok, I recognized it first when I tried to use Amarok).
Amarok says that phonon is unable to play mp3 (... flac doesn't work as well)
So I looked here: System Settings -> Multimedia -> Backends ... and ?! .. NO BACKENDS in the list :(
I thought phonon-xine wasn't installed, but I was. I reinstalled it, restarted my computer, but no luck at all ..

I hope this is a known problem and someone can help me.
If you've got questions concerning log files etc. just ask. I'll have a look and post them here.

Thanks

EDIT: media-sound/phonon is installed, qt-phonon is NOT installed.
EDIT 2: it's phonon-4.2.0 and phonon-xine-4.1.66 (is here the problem!?)

EDIT3: I started systemsettings in konsole. and here's the error message when i click on multimedia: "WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded"
