Hi,

as the topic already says, I emerged the alpha/beta of the vlc media player which is now qt4 based.
However, it still looks 'gnome-ish' and uses an old-school icon-theme.

Is there a way to apply the oxygen style and icon-theme to it?
For the case it will be asked: the 'qt4' useflag is enabled ;) .

At least it should be possible: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=43896&p=138305

Try with USE="-wxwindows".
I am getting the oxygen style right now in vlc.

Mmh, I have 'wxwindows' disabled globally in make.conf and in package.use for vlc too (it also compiles without wxwindows) - but I still get this non-oxygen look.

Ok, maybe its not exactly 'gnome-ish', it also could be the plastic-style of previous Qt/KDE-versions. Which Qt-version do you have installed, Qt 4.4?
I still have Qt 4.3.3 - could this be the reason?

Strange behavior: starting qtconfig from my user account Oxygen is there and enabled.
Starting it as root, there is no Oxygen to be found and Plastic was the current style.

Playing around and changing the styles both from my user account as well as from root did nothing: everytime vlc started with the same style. Even logging out and in again or reemerging with changed settings had no effekt.

Any ideas?

Normal. root does have a different environment.

If an app uses the Oxygen style (or actually, the style, that has been set) depends on how it has been programmed, afaik.

For example, my vlc uses the buttons style from oxygen, but different icons.

with "strange" I meant, that qtconfig didn't find oxygen within root and that there are no visible changes by switching the style in qtconfig.
The fact, that diverent useraccounts have diverent environments is known to me ;) .

I wish it had at least the button style from oxygen ...

So I think, I'll end up using SMplayer ... should be nearly as mighty as vlc, and at least it uses the native Oxygen style

this should go into multimedia now (vlc beta is in portage tree now)

WOW 8O

since when did vlc lose wxwindows-support ?

afaik the last version which "worked" for me was beta1

I was wondering all the time why it was "broken" after that, today I noticed that it "suddenly" had qt4 use-flag & now it's re-compiling
