I am trying to install 2008.0beta2 on my g3 iBook (Yes it's a clamshell). I
cannot get the cd to boot, but could I install 2008.0beta2 using the 2007.0
mini install cd. Also does 2008.0beta2 work on 32 bit arch Thanks

Since Gentoo is basically versionless, you can use whatever LiveCD CD you want to install Gentoo. The older the year-version it is, the more updates you'll have to perform in order to be up-to-date though. Getting the latest year-version just saves you a lot of time and trouble getting those updates (as well as having a more current Gentoo build, per se).

I have completed installing 2008.0 beta 2 on my Clamshell using the 2007.0 mini install CD and it hangs during
boot in the same spot the 2008.0 beta 2 mini install CD did when I tried to install using it I may give it another shot
using genkernel and see what happens if anyone has a suggestion on what I might try before I go through the
fun of reinstalling I would like to hear from you. I would like to add I did have 2007.0 ppc installed with X and wireless
but I put a 100 GB hard drive in (Talk about fun) and I figured I would try 2008. If it helps I am dual booting
and OS X runs fine.

Well I gave up and reinstalled 2007.0 on my clamshell all went well xac worked and my airport card works well at home
I will try again when the final release of 2008 comes out I also finally figured out I need to select a kernel option for 2008.0
there is no default for g3's and 4's its ppc32 I guess I have grown to used to having things done for me and I should read
all the Install info and maybe a bit more google search.
I was so happy with the install I decided to finally install gentoo 2008.0 on my G4 iBook and that went well only xac did
not work so I emerged xserver and Xautoconfig and X is working well I am using xfce4 on both the Clam Shell
and the G4 iBook and the great thing about gentoo and linux on ppc is I have java 1.6 with out having to give apple
A VERY LARGE SUM OF MONEY to up grade my G4 iBook to 10.5 and the poor Clam Shell is NO LONGER SUPPORTED
by apple as are a lot of my G4 towers who's processors are less than the 800mhz that I have been told 10.5
needs to operate. I am taking computer science classes here at the University I work for and the exchange students
tell me that linux is the main OS they use in Europe. When are we going to wake up and quit making the GREEDY richer
I know one thing I have bought my last new mac and I am sad about that.

Does anyone remember apple's 1984 add my how times have changed

Sorry to take this a bit off topic, but what didn't work with xac? I'd like to fix it if there is a problem!

Sorry to have taken so long to respond but I have been doing some other stuff and just thought I would look in on the forum
and noticed your reply. I had no problem with xac on my G3 466 MHz Clam Shell but on my G4 1.33 GHz iBook I tried installing
X with xac and I could only get it to work as root or as su in my user account I posted it under the topic "Xorg works in root and su not for user
where I posted my xorg.conf file I also noticed your post about my problems with missing text on eclipse and again it seems to be working
fine on my Clam Shell which is odd since I only have 512M of ram and eclipse recommends I believe 738M for 3.3.

This is how artificial intelligence will start laptops will start acting like cats(messing with our minds) and then we'll be stuck having to feed
them and let them in and out of the house all the time.
