In case this isn't just a specific 64bit question:

The latest flash 9 and 10 require gtk2 to be installed, you can start opera in a console with --debugplugin and it will give you some output regarding the plugin problems.

1. This is on my x86 laptop and x86_64 desktop.
2. I don't think this is a problem with flash. firefox and konqueror work fine.

Here is the output of opera --debugplugin
Code:

$ opera --debugplugin
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libnpp.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libnpp.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libflashplayer.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libflashplayer.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/javaplugin.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin failure] (No 'mimedescription') /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/javaplugin.so
opera: pluginwrapper exited cleanly with exit code 1 during plug-in detection
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/nphelix.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/nphelix.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/nppdf.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/nppdf.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/mplayerplug-in.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/mplayerplug-in.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/libflashplayer.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/libflashplayer.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/mplayerplug-in-qt.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/mplayerplug-in-qt.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/netscape/plugins/nphelix.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/netscape/plugins/nphelix.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/netscape/plugins/nppdf.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/netscape/plugins/nppdf.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so

When I go to youtube, for ex., I can only see a blank rectangle.

Are you using 9.5? Pre-9.5 builds only work with flash 7 and lower.

As for 9.5 and flash 9/10, on my 32-bit laptop flash instantly works by adding the plugin directory to opera. The 64-bit method was already linked. I did note my --debugplugin output being different from yours; maybe a version difference?

f.e.
Code:
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] MIMEDescription             : present
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] NPPVpluginNameString        : present
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] NPPVpluginDescriptionString : present
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] dlclose returned : 0
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] Return value : 0 File : /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Hello!
I got this working on my x86_64 with net-www/netscape-flash-9.0.124.0 and opera-9.5(final):
Emerge nspluginwrapper
Go to "preferences>plugins" and add this path manually:
/usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins
Check off all other plugin paths and restart Opera.
Even youtube works now.
Has anyone gotten java to work with opera-9.5(final) on x86_64?

Java on 64bit opera should be possible using the icedtea variant. I think it's in one of the layman repositories. The nspluginwrapper should not be needed on 32bit opera versions, so I doubt emerging that will solve his issues :-)
