I can't boot 2.6.26-zenrt1 on my Thinkpad X31

Code:

Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)... ok
Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... done.
Booting the kernel.

then it freezes forever.

Oh..and hopefully somebody will put the C1E patch back in, since rc9 was reverted to rc8....unless it was left in.

Reverted to rc8? It looks more like they pushed it to the 2.6.26 release. I wish they would do the same with zen and zenmm. *\me pokes rmh*

I have a patch here that enables the ACPI_VIDEO module for 64bit kernel builds. It works for me, as I can now control my brightness (although it won't work with Kpowersave because it's lowlevel bios controlled, I think). Anyway, I need somebody to test it to make sure that it doesn't break anything for them, just to be sure, and then once that's done, we should merge it into the zen vanilla sources.

Any progress with vanilla 2.6.26-zen1? Or it won't be maintained anymore?

P.S. from 2.6.26-rc8-zen1 (i think) my ipw2200 is not working anymore :( (but it works with vanilla -also rcs- kernels).
I'll try to be more accurate as I find the time to compile some different versions.

Man, this kernel (2.6.26-rc8-zenmm3) zooms along pretty well. Just wanted to drop in to say this and say thanks!
No problems so far...
Has been crunching on folding@home all day, this night included some neverwinter nights on top of that... not a single hickup and very smooth... on a p4 1400 w/ 256 ram

Quite the hampy camper now, so to speak

Wrong thread...I'm bitter about mm right now, as I have to disable acpi to use it.

@mroconnor: generally yes,

unfortunately I'm getting hardlocks during every bootup right now (with every latest mm - wth ? )
so I'm open again against ( :lol: ) everything new

I realize that almost no one pays attention to compile-time messages while the kernel is building, but I decided to pipe stderr out to logfiles while building 2.6.26-zen1 to see what would show up. The following messages were logged while the kernel itself was built:

Hi there.

I'm experiencing boot problems on my laptop when on battery. This is not an issue with zen (does occur with 2.6.26-zen1 and 2.6.26-gentoo) but I thought I'd ask here first if someone has a similar problem with a laptop or heard about this.

Laptop Sony Vaio VGN-SZ5MN
lspci: http://www.pastebin.org/56770
.config: http://www.pastebin.org/56771

From my log:
Code:

scsi0 : ata_piix
scsi1 : ata_piix
ata1: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0x1880 irq 14
ata2: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0x1888 irq 15

here kernel .26 stops when on battery. When power plugged in or using kernel .25 boot continues with
Code:

ata1.00: ATAPI: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-852S, 1.00, max UDMA/33
ata1.00: configured for UDMA/33
ata2: port disabled. ignoring.
isa bounce pool size: 16 pages
scsi 0:0:0:0: CD-ROM            MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-852S  1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
sr 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
sr 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 5

Any suggestions? Mail lkml?

unfortunately, my wireless connection don't work with 2.6.26-zen1 (tried this morning with 2.6.26-rc8-zen1-hotfix2/2.6.26_vanilla and it's ok) or the latest rt/mm branches.

It look like a problem with WPA.

I'm on Slackware, this is the pertinent part in /var/log/messages
Code:
Jul 24 20:54:39 vaioz2 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  /sbin/iwconfig eth1 mode Managed
Jul 24 20:54:39 vaioz2 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  /sbin/iwconfig eth1 nick vaioz2
Jul 24 20:54:39 vaioz2 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  /sbin/iwconfig eth1 rate auto
Jul 24 20:54:39 vaioz2 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  /sbin/iwconfig eth1 ap 00:C0:49:F2:33:5E
Jul 24 20:54:39 vaioz2 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  /sbin/iwconfig eth1 essid "FANTOMAZ"
Jul 24 20:54:39 vaioz2 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  wpa_supplicant -Bw -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dwext -ieth1
Jul 24 20:55:39 vaioz2 logger: WPA authentication did not complete, try running '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 eth1_start' in a few seconds.
Jul 24 21:05:03 vaioz2 kernel: __ratelimit: 2 messages suppressed

don't know if ratelimit message is pertinent too (I can't see it with 2.6.26-rc8-hotfix2).

this is my wpa_supplicant.conf file, this is the verbose output of wpa_supplicant with 2.6.26-zen1 and this is the successful one (until i pressed ctrl-c) with 2.6.26-rc8-hotfix2.

as good news latest nvidia drivers work like a charm :D

Try removing the line
Code:
ctrl_interface_group=0

from wpa_supplicant.conf as it is maked deprecated in the log when your connection fails
Quote:
ctrl_interface='/var/run/wpa_supplicant'
ctrl_interface_group='0' (DEPRECATED)
eapol_version=1

while not beeing deprecated in the log when your connection is fine
Quote:
ctrl_interface='/var/run/wpa_supplicant'
eapol_version=1

BTW, I assume this box is a sony vaio laptop. Does it boot without problems when on battery? My vaio does not!
